Yes it would be nice to be able to send private messages to friends and contacts.
Please hurry getting the API out. I want to be able to upload from my Nokia 5800.

Definitely a good idea, especially useful for family podcasting, or workplace even

Privacy will be an option in the future - probably in the paid version.
Regarding the API - appreciate people want it. We're just working out how we future proof it so that it doesn't break for people when we update it. API's are fragile things, so pls bear with us.

Yes I think the privacy optiosn would be great. I also think it would be good to let people choose their default privacy settings, whether they want the exact location shared or just the city/town they are in. (a regional location)

I would like to choose the privacy of location from w/in the App on the iPhone, not just on the website. (If it's in the menu choices before Publish on the App, I have not seen it yet.)

I think public and trusted may be enough, where public can cross post to twitter and facebook, while trusted would only share with audioboo trusted friends. This would be especially valueable for the location info. I want to only share what city i am in with the public, but a more precise location with friends that I selectively trust.

As an educator, I would definitely like to have privacy settings (self -private, identified friends, public). And, would like to be able to do it from the iPhone. This would not necessitate going to the web when traveling and doing podcasts.

There will always be a free one but we have to eat

Yes, I would like to have those privacy settings. That is actually one of the first things I looked up after I signed up. I would like to be able not to have it in the public timeline, but have others still be able to listen to it (if they had a link) from twitter or facebook even if they aren't audioboo members.

Absolutely. For example, I would love to be able to post privately, but have these posts show up on my Facebook. Privacy settings are a must for Web 2.0-3.0 apps in my opinion.

FWIW, depending on how much(!), I'd be willing to pay for AudioBoo, because it is an incredibly powerful tool - with a great deal of potential for audio distribution beyond just short pieces of audio. Freemium, I think, is the way ahead :)

Privacy essential. Would love this as a contact method for friends and family.

This is a tool that' really functional and very very useful. I have been working with Odiogo (www.odiogo.com), which converts a text blog post to audio, and with Audioboo if the reverse happens, then it's fantastic. I have been a journalist, and see the utility of this in a great way.
Yes, you should also have great APIs that will allow us to have our own audio channels, own websites and even our own News Sites.
I DON'T know if YOU HAVE REALISED THE REVOLUTIONARY CHANGES THAT IT CAN BRING IN NEWS MEDIA. Come to think of it, in India, Mobile Market is exploding, adding 9.16 Million connections in Aug 2008 (it's old data I know), and 99 % of them are pre paid, who also use a lot of Value Added Services.
Some of the biggest innovations are happening in Mobile VAS Space in India.
You guys, if you can hit it big time, you will be the NEWS MEDIA CONGLOMORATE, just BECAUSE EVERYONE CAN SPEAK (well almost), but NOT EVERYONE CAN READ.
Hope to see that you innovate, scale and grow. I will definitely be using your services, and am waiting for these things:
1. Audioboo from other phones,
2. Widgets that can sit in blogs, websites, social media sites (not just facebook), 3. Audio to text (I don't know if this is already there) 4. Audioboo with simplicity from low end phones (these are predominant in India), like record and send the recording through an MMS to the user's account. Best Wishes, Pramodh

i agree with many responders. Privacy settings are a must!
Not that I've ever published anything I wouldn't want to see in a newspaper!
Cheers

I too would be very interested in the privacy settings. I would use AudioBoo much more with privacy options.

I have just registered and hoped to find privacy settings before I started to use AudioBoo. It would be most welcome as not all users would want to Boo to the world yet would still like to use AudioBoo for personal contacts. Yes, please for privacy settings.

As there is clearly a lot of enthusiasm for this, could AB let us know
when we can expect to see this implemented?

Here's an idea that crosses my mind but I haven't seen mentioned, and i'm not quite sure what you'd call it, but i'd call it "radius of obscurification", hence many wouldn't have any idea what it meant.
I have location turned off because if I boo from home a few times it makes it quite obvious where I live. Not the house perhaps but certainly the section of the street. Too close.
Imagine the iPhone app gave you a "hide location within of home" setting. Firstly the app would need to store a home location. Then, if you're located within a configurable distance of that home location, say half a mile for example, the app would recognise it and not provide the location.
That way where somebody lives can be obscured but when they're not at home they can still idenitfy their location by default, as it's a key part of the package.
Please excuse me if i'm repeating somebody elses idea, but this seems like a good way to handle the most basic level of privacy concerns.

We're working on users being able to 'fuzz' location data
